Shawn Mendes Replaces Himself at No. 1 on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks Chart

Shawn Mendes’ “Mercy” flies 10-1 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart (dated Jan. 14), knocking his own “Ruin” from the top slot. With the bump, the singer-songwriter becomes the third act to succeed itself at No. 1.
The previous two? Justin Bieber, whose “Sorry” replaced “Love Yourself” on the Jan. 30, 2016, ranking, and Zayn, who achieved the feat twice consecutively when “It’s You” topped the list dated March 19, 2016, and was succeeded by the No. 1 reigns of “Like I Would” (March 26) and “Befour” (April 2).
Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks is a weekly ranking of the most shared and/or mentioned songs on Twitter in the U.S., ranked by the volume of shares over a seven-day period (Monday to Sunday). The newest chart’s tracking week ended on Jan. 1.
“Mercy” moves after Mendes’ tweeted that the song hit No. 1 in the U.S. iTunes Store chart on Dec. 26. The placement foreshadowed a big sales total for “Mercy,” which sold 119,000 digital downloads in the week ending Dec. 29, according to Nielsen Music, ranking at No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart and spurring a 28-17 ascent on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s the fourth top 20-charting single for Mendes on the Hot 100.
